An Insider’s Guide to Waterfront Living in Jersey City

The Hudson Waterfront, the Gold Coast, the Sixth Borough—the collection of neighborhoods on the banks of Jersey City has quite the reputation. And with skyline views, luxurious properties, and Manhattan just minutes away, it’s not hard to see why!

Those Views

The NYC skyline.

Imagine waking up every morning, looking out the window of your high rise, and having front-row views to one of the most iconic cities in the world. Since almost all of the buildings on the waterfront have unobstructed views of Manhattan, you’ll be able to see everything from Lady Liberty to the Empire State building—all without having to leave your living room.

Simple Commutes

The waterfront is just across the Hudson from Lower Manhattan, so plenty of people who live in Jersey City commute over for work. If you’re in a similar boat, then you’ll find that there are a wide variety of options! Take the PATH in from the Exchange Place or Newport station, float over on the Harborside or Paulus Hook ferry, or hop on I-78 and drive across the Holland Tunnel.

Whether your heading in for your job or just looking to explore NYC, your transportation options will have you there in anywhere from 20-45 minutes.

Tons of Shopping & Dining

While the premium shopping and dining options of Manhattan are just a short trip away, you may not always feel like trekking through traffic to get there. Luckily, the Jersey City waterfront is a hub of activity!

One of the biggest shopping centers in Jersey City, the Newport Centre, is just a few blocks from the Hudson and has 3 floors filled with shops like Macy’s, H&M, Michael Kors, and Sephora. Once you work up an appetite, you’ll find pretty much every culinary flavor you could ask for within a few blocks of your front door. I recommend trying out local favorites like the sushi at Komegashi Too, the farm-to-table cuisine at Liberty House, or the inventive seafood at Maritime Parc.

Luxurious Homes

While Jersey City is full of beautiful listings, the buildings by the waterfront take it to the next level. Many of the properties are newly built or recently renovated, with modern interiors and state-of-the-art features. Amenities are also huge when it comes to waterfront living, so most buildings offer anything from private rooftop pools to spas to fitness centers and more.
