There’s something special about strolling down tree-lined streets or enjoying a concert in town square. Downtown districts on the Gold Coast are known for their vibrant history, amazing shopping, and delicious dining options…and I’m sharing a few of my favorite spots! Here are some charming destinations that you should check out this spring.
The Top Downtown Districts on the Gold Coast
Tucked along the Hudson River, Downtown Hoboken is a bustling town center with plenty of fun places to explore. You might already be familiar with one of Hoboken’s biggest landmarks, but I’ll give you a hint—it has some of the best sweets in town! No visit to Downtown Hoboken is complete without sampling some cake at Carlo‘s Bakery, which is featured in the TLC show Cake Boss.
You could spend an entire day wandering around the streets of Hoboken, and there’s truly something fun for everyone. Be sure to try some authentic Italian food at Anthony David’s—the truffle carbonara is out of this world! To round out your trip, check out Anthology, the Hoboken Historical Museum, and the Hoboken Cove Boathouse.
Downtown Jersey City
It’s been said that Downtown Jersey City is the best waterfront community in the state, which definitely makes it worth a visit. Here, you’ll uncover a blend of history and modern innovation…all with a lot of Jersey flair! Start your visit by taking in panoramic waterfront views of Manhattan at Liberty State Park. You’ll also find the Liberty Science Center, the area’s top museum, just nearby.
Once you’ve worked up an appetite, head towards Grove Street to try out Razza. This eclectic eatery showcases wood-fired pizzas, as well as a fully-stocked bar with craft cocktails. For dessert, I recommend enjoying a scoop of ice cream at Torico, a 50-year JC favorite. Looking for some more fun? You’ll find it at Mana Contemporary, the Colgate Clock, and on Hudson Street.
Downtown Weehawken is a place that’s steeped in plenty of history and tradition. If you want to learn more about this city’s colored past, pay a visit to Hamilton Park, which is the site of the infamous Burr–Hamilton duel. Of course, you can also enjoy the Manhattan vistas and walking trails, too.
For those looking to shop the day away, Weehawken’s Park Avenue is the place to be. This sprawling street is home to the Tower Plaza Mall, Arecia’s Creations, and the Weehawken Pet Shop. When you’re feeling hungry, you’ll have plenty of restaurants to choose from. In fact, Weekhawken has everything from Turkish cuisine to Italian favorites to American classics. Locals often recommend Molos, Chart House, and Robongi.
